SIR Richard Brunson


BRUNSON Jr., Richard L.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana August 17, 1930, Richard passed away Friday, August 15, 2008 at his home in Sacramento. He grew up in New Orleans with his younger brother Burt during the Great Depression and WWII. Their parents taught the importance of hard work and self-sufficiency. Both boys had jobs before they were 10 years old. After graduating from Warren Easton High School, R.L. joined the Merchant Marine and then the U.S. Air Force. The family attended Canal Blvd. Baptist Church where he met and married Barbara Dean Lehmann in 1956.
In 1957 the couple moved to Sacramento where Dick became a Lieutenant and served as a Navigator at McClellan AFB. In 1960 he joined the Christadelphians and became active in their Bible studies. He received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Air Force and began working at Proctor & Gamble. He retired in 1995. He spent his retirement years playing golf, socializing with friends, enjoying his grandchildren, and traveling.
A long struggle with declining health began March 2007. Through it he showed strength, courage, and a well-known sense of humor that rarely wavered.
Survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Brunson; his brother Burt Brunson and wife Mary of New Orleans; his four children Karen de Caussin, Rick Brunson and wife Terri, Susan Skidmore, Bill Brunson and wife Kari; as well as nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews and many friends. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at Nicoletti's Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Boulevard, Sacramento, CA at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th. Please bring a memory to share. A reception will immediately follow.
