MAY 20th PICNIC
Just wanted to give every one a personal "atta boy" for the picnic today. I think part of our success secret today was the fine way bartenders Bob Lamora and Dick Larsen got the group pre-looped before-hand. I have never seen such a happy group and the name tags prepared by Speedy Sheetz was impressive. There were a lot of surprised faces and pleased remarks about Speedy's classy name-tag efforts. He was also the first on site this morning, while we slept, power blowing the tables so things would be ship shape.
The cooking was absolutely great with chefs John Swarts, Bob Hamilton and George Miller cooking and serving up a feast. The choice of meats was excellent and the marinades worked great. The dry rub and the partial pre-cooking of the chicken was a great idea plus not serving the steaks immediately let those juices set. That's good thinking guys. I thank Bill Stroebel who was pressed into service at the last minute for ticket collecting as people headed down the line. When Bill came today he didn't know it would be a work day.
Tom and Marcy Eyman masterfully headed up the preparation and dispensing of side dishes neatly as always. Don't know if you know it, but Marcy prepared the Cole Slaw herself. She and Tom had purchased ahead the potato salad, chili, dinner rolls and then as a topper choose a fruit dessert. Servers Gary Bohn and Don Neudeck ....what can I say guys......both of you were so busy be-forehand and afterhand.
As always the beautiful baritone of Warren Coffeen was just right for the blessing. And a big big thanks to the mighty Wagner Brothers, Don Dresbach, and Chuck Shoemaker for helping out at the book station. A next to the last special thanks goes to Dick Coleman for swinging music selections. Wasn't that music great? Lastly..... a warm thanks goes to Don Braatz for taking the left over books for distribution to veterans. Don has done this every year and its sure appreciated by us as well as them.
